Mission Control · Who We Are
We make the universe feel small enough to hold.
Cosmic Scale AI is a tiny, independent team of astronomers, educators, and engineers. We build quiet, careful tools that turn the staggering numbers of space into something you can actually feel — not a game, not a gimmick, just a better sense of where we sit.
Why we exist
The universe is almost insultingly large. A light year is nine and a half trillion kilometres, the observable cosmos is 93 billion light years across, and the human brain was never built to picture any of it. Textbooks hand you the numbers; they rarely hand you the feeling.
We started Cosmic Scale AI to close that gap. Every distance, travel time, and scale comparison on this site uses real astronomical values where they exist, rendered in a calm, observatory-grade interface you can explore at your own pace. When something is simulated or speculative, we say so — clearly.
What we believe
- Real science, labeled clearly. Where data is measured, we use measured values. Where it is invented for play, we mark it SIMULATED.
- No accounts, no noise. You should be able to open a tool and use it. Progress is saved locally in your browser; nothing leaves your device unless you share it.
- Restraint over spectacle. Space is already extraordinary. We'd rather get out of its way than bury it in neon.
- For everyone. The curious kid, the tired adult, the lifelong stargazer — the site is built to work on a phone, on a laptop, with a screen reader, at any hour.
How the site is built
Cosmic Scale AI is a static site — plain HTML, CSS, and a little JavaScript. There is no backend tracking you and no login wall. Features like Call the Stars run entirely in your browser, and your progress lives in localStorage on your own machine.
